Brother BearLocal tribesmen believe all creatures are created through the Spirits, who are said to appear in the form of an aurora. With a young boy or girls coming of age the great spirits grant them a totem that help guide them through life. In brother bear, we see that the youngest brother is having his coming of age ceremony and is given his animal spirt totem. Although he does not agree with it, the old wise lady gave it to him because it is what the spirits decided what was best for him.

The Haka is a traditional Māori war cry dance from New Zealand. The dance is performed in a lot of tribes and cultures in New Zealand. Normally, the dance is performed prior to the event taking place weather it be sport matches or conferences. It displays a tribe’s pride, strength and unity. It is a dance performed by a group. Actions include vigorous movements such as violent foot-stamping, tongue protrusions and rhythmic body slapping to accompany a loud chant. Today, the haka are still used during Māori ceremonies and celebrations to honor guests and show the importance of the occasion. They are also used to challenge opponents on the sports field, especially for the Rugby sport (Video Below). They are seen in Rugby films like Invictus and Forever Strong before the game begun. The movie Whale Rider was a film about an 11 year old Māori girl and her ways of life being in a New Zealand tribe who believes she could be chief one day. A clip of a haka was also in the film.
